Meet Joe

Meet Joe

Joseph G. Kalmer is an Illinois licensed funeral director and embalmer, and the Owner of Cypress Pointe Cremation in Aurora, IL and St. Louis, MO. He was born and raised in Clinton County, IL, a rural area about 45 miles east of St. Louis, MO.

After attaining his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL he attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, graduating in the Spring of 1988.
In his 32 years in the funeral industry, Joe has seen many changes. Obviously the biggest change has been the growth of cremation. Never afraid of a new venture, Joe Kalmer has embraced cremation and created a business which meets the demands of today’s consumer by providing professional and dignified cremation services at an affordable price; hence the birth of Cypress Pointe Cremation. As the author of “You Can Afford to Die; Sensible Advice from a Practical Funeral Director”, he literally wrote the book on dying affordably.
Joe is married to his wife of 32 years, Cheryl. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. He enjoys boating, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.

James J. Phelps was born in Evergreen Park in 1972, and raised a product of Catholic Schools until his departure to Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue a college education and career in mortuary science. He received his degree in 1993, and has worked as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the funeral service field since 1995. He has embalmed over

2000 remains, and arranged thousands of funeral services, burials, and cremations. Jim believes helping assist grieving families through the most difficult time in their lives is fulfilling and rewarding. Jim is the father of 4 children, Jimmy, 21, Abbey, 20, Aaron, 17, and Aidan, 8. He is the oldest of three children born to Dr. James and Carol. He enjoys playing golf, drumming, listening to music, spending time with his kids, his girlfriend, Marie, and his dog, HeRu.
